Message From The Principal

I hope that you and your loved ones are doing well as we enter the 2020/2021 school year.  We are going through uncertain and difficult times right now.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if we can be of any support to you or your students.

Our entire ZMS staff has been working tirelessly to learn a whole new way of delivering instruction, how to deliver quality instruction virtually, how to build relationships with students online, and how to plan meaningful and rigorous lessons for every student.  It’s been a whirlwind of trainings and planning.  We have all experienced excitement and jitters.  We have all also experienced some anxiety for teachers, administrators, parents and students.

Please know that we are all in this together.  Parts of the plan might fail, but the people won’t.  Our teachers care too much.  You, the parents, care too much.  Will we make mistakes?  Yes.  Will there be frustrations?  Yes. We are committed to learning and getting better every day.  Educating your students is our number one priority, and we are all learning a new way to do it.  We will work through all the failures and kinks together.

When your child gets frustrated, please encourage them to be resilient. Log in to each class every day.  Encourage your child to reach out for help.  Email the teacher with questions.  Log in when the teacher is teaching live. All teachers have office hours, academic support time, weekly assignments and schedule for live teaching.

This new learning model does not need to be a barrier, but instead will serve as an opportunity to change our mindset as it relates to the delivery of instruction and engaging students in learning.   This year, I am very much looking forward to providing exceptional educational experiences for our students. I want students to leave ZMS with memories that will last a lifetime!  We want our students to LOVE learning and LOVE coming to school, even if it is virtually.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me, I value your input.

Mission

Open doors and provide opportunities to life-long learners.

Our Vision

Our vision is to provide educational opportunities as unique as each of our learners. We strive to meet our students where they are by providing achievable goals while building a community of rapport that honors them as individuals, values each student’s diverse learning style, and fosters growth.

Philosophy

At Zuni Middle School, the following beliefs guide our work:

  • We believe every student has the potential to learn.
  •  We believe every person who interacts with a student is a teacher.
  • We believe learning differently demands that we teach differently.
  • We believe the responsibility for pedagogical decisions lies with individual teachers.
  • We believe all teachers should have the necessary resources for implementing the curriculum.
  • We believe parent partnerships are an essential component in the pursuit of academic and social development.
  • We believe we must encourage students to learn about learning and to form their own understandings in a search for intellectual autonomy.
  • We believe we must impart to our students a sense of moral responsibility for their thoughts and actions pertaining to the A:shiwi Core Values

Dr. Dominique Dosedo

Principal

Greetings, my name is Dr. Dominique Dosedo. I was born and raised in Zuni and a proud product of the Zuni Public School District System.

Growing up, my long-term goals were to become a teacher, a counselor, and a principal at the same school I attended, Zuni Middle School. After high school, I attended New Mexico Highlands University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education and a Master of Arts degree in licensed professional counseling and school counseling.  While in Las Vegas, I had several opportunities to learn and practice teaching, focus on youth mental health, and taught struggling families strategies to understand and work with their at-risk youth.  After ten years from home, I returned to Zuni and worked in Gallup for the McKinley County Juvenile Substance Abuse Crisis Center.  Once an opportunity in school counseling at ZMS became available, I applied and was hired.  I held the position for five years.  During my time as a counselor at ZMS, I began my doctoral journey in educational leadership, and a quick five years later, I graduated from Grand Canyon University in April of 2022.  I have now entered my second year as principal for ZMS, a position that brings much joy to me personally and professionally.

I commit to working hard to ensure our students have the best teaching, opportunities, and support to achieve at the highest levels.  I welcome parents, family, and the community to join in our journey to excellence.

Thank you for choosing ZMS!! Go Falcons!!
